ITS TRUE!! ITS TRUE!!! I just got done filming the first season of our new show for the Style Network called “Tacky House”!!! I was blessed to work with the most amazing people, cast and crew. Being signed on as the co-host and design coordinator, I got to work with the ever so fabulous Thom Filica, who is not only the funniest person I’ve ever met in my life, but also the most charming. I can’t tell you how many times I was told that “the makeup artist must have forgotten to do my face” as Im stepping out of the makeup chair….his sense of humor made me love him more!!! On a daily basis I laughed so hard that I didn’t think I could finish a scene with him. And Jared Dostie, my partner in crime, is a fantastic carpenter and a great wing man!!! He’s so talented that I’d see him do things with electrical that would’ve given me a full blown panic attack! Los Angeles, April 8, 2010 – Proud homeowners may think their interior design ideas are top notch, but overpowering home themes and distasteful decorative styles often tell a different story. On Style’s new home makeover series “Tacky House,” hosted by design guru Thom Filicia (“Dress My Nest,” “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”), delusional designer wanabees get a big dose of reality when the room they think is so amazing is singled out by family or friends for an emergency design intervention. Thom’s design team includes coordinator Kelly Edwards (“Design on a Dime”) and project manager Jared Dostie (“Rate My Space”). With tough love and lots of humor, the “Tacky House” team tackles each interior design disaster head-on, transforming the amateur decorator’s intended room theme from tacky to tasteful while providing useful tips along the way. Don’t miss “Tacky House,” premiering Wednesday, April 21 at 11:00pm et/pt on The Style Network.
In each episode, Thom and his expert duo help redesign rooms suffering from dreadful décor. The first real challenge, however, is convincing the novice designer that the room they so caringly crafted desperately needs a makeover (or in some cases, a “makeunder”). Initially, the homeowner believes that they are appearing on My Awesome Room, a show celebrating their unique design taste. But in fact, the target will discover they are really on “Tacky House” after Thom ambushes their fake show and tells the truth that their room has been singled out for its tackiness. Once the cat is out of the bag, the drama has only just begun. Will the once proud designer admit their skills might be a bit off? Will they allow Thom and his team to rework the space? More importantly, will they forgive the family member or friend who nominated them and their tacky room?
In the premiere episode, Thom and his design team face a big challenge as they attempt to tame one woman’s wild fascination with leopard print! Yvonne, the self-proclaimed “leopard lady,” has allowed her preferred decorating style to run amok. Almost all of the surfaces in her home are covered in animal print and it’s even invading her limo business. With patience running thin, Yvonne’s friend and a work assistant decide its time for an intervention and report her to “Tacky House.” It’s then up to Thom to teach her how to express her adventurous style in a tasteful way, while at the same time create a more relaxing and inviting space showcasing her exuberant personality.
Later in the season, the “Tacky House” crew confronts one tragically tacky room after another, as they revamp a Hollywood “castle” resembling a dated medieval theme park, redo a poker room that yells “man cave” a bit too loudly, tone down an overgrown floral-themed dwelling and even rescue one woman whose quirky obsession with leprechauns has spilled over into a green, woodsy, four-leaf-clover filled interior design nightmare.
Help for design disasters has finally arrived when “Tacky House” premieres Wednesday, April 21 at 11:00pm et/pt, only on The Style Network.
“Tacky House” is produced by Scout Productions for The Style Network.
