Recipe for Designing Like a Celebrity in Your Home
On the heels of the Emmy’s I thought I’d share with you my tips for designing your homes like the celebrities do. Of course, some have a gazillion dollars to do it with, but here are a few ideas for getting the same look for less.
-Even if you can’t afford it, fake expensive fabric. Velvet is always the best one to choose. It looks rich and luxurious.
-Add nice countertops to your kitchen. You can forgo the expensive cabinetry, but splurge on the countertops. They’ll make the cabinets look more expensive.
-Dark framed windows give a sense of mystery looking in and out. I’m in LOVE with black steel window frames. They give an overall sophistication to any room.
-Go for a “spa like” bathroom. A great showerhead makes all the difference. Waterpik’s Rainfall Showerheads are a perfect example of how something so inexpensive can change the look and feel of an entire room.
-Consider a washstand sink in the bathroom instead of a pedestal sink or cabinet. It’s much more elegant.
-Over scale artwork makes a huge statement in any room. Plus, it’s a great way to bring in all the colors of your room into one place.
-Entertaining is a must. One of my favorite designers is Windsor Smith loves kitchens that you don’t just cook in, but you entertain in. Design a kitchen that the dining room table fits into. It’s a great way to entertain and cook at the same time.
-Add ample bedding. Switch out those tired bed pillows to fluffy new ones. Your bed will look better and be much more comfortable to get in.
-Establish a room with a view. The more glass to see the beautifully manicured lawn the better.
-Find an element that makes your space stand out. Install gorgeous molding on the walls, add amazing wood floors or beautiful windows. People will notice the details.
-Invent an indoor/outdoor space. Even if you don’t live in California, pretend like you do. Instead of dining inside, bring the party to the yard, the deck or even the balcony.
