How to Clean your Silver Flatware
In about 5 days I’m off to travel the country on a 10 day morning show tour that will last until the middle of December giving you my easy cleaning and decorating tips for the holidays and one product I will be talking about is Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. This product is definitely the mother ship when it comes to cleaning. It can do it all! It’s multi-purpose and it’s non-toxic, which I love. A one stop shop especially when you are doing your holiday home cleaning.
Since this is the season for entertaining it’s certainly time to break out that silver flatware! Now I personally adore the look of silver at any dinner table and believe it makes such a statement. It’s elegant, timeless and just beautiful! But of course, it must be polished first. So here are some directions below for getting a little sparkle into your silver using baking soda.
1. Line a shallow pan with aluminum foil and fill the pan with 3 inches of water.
2. Add in 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
3. Soak for 10-12 minutes.
4. Rinse your flatware with warm water.
5. Lie flat to try on a clean towel.
6. After its dry and using a clean cloth, buff the silverware removing any water spots.
Easy as that! Happy Entertaining!
Cleaning 101…Using Food!

Ok folks, here’s your first installment of cleaning tips. I figured this one may come in handy for those of you who are just recovering from the holiday parties…especially if you were the one hosting and cleaning is on your list this week!
CLEANING WITH VANILLA EXTRACT: To freshen up your freezer and get rid of that awful freezer smell, put a little vanilla extract on a cloth and wipe down the inside.
CLEANING WITH POWDERED MUSTARD: To remove the smell from your glass storage containers, soak them in a quart of warm water and a teaspoon of powdered mustard overnight.
CLEANING WITH BAKING SODA: To remove the smell from your plastic storage containers, soak them in warm water and baking soda overnight.
CLEANING WITH LEMONS: Clean a garbage disposal by dropping lemon peels down the drain and running the disposal.
CLEANING WITH ONIONS (yes…onions!): To eliminate that mold and mildew smell in a basement, cut an onion in half and leave overnight. The onion smell will go away after a while and leave your basement smelling fresh.
CLEANING WITH KETCHUP: To remove tarnish from brass or copper, rub with a little ketchup on with a clean cloth. Rinse and dry.
CLEANING WITH TABLE SALT: For spills in the oven, pour a fair amount of table salt over it. When cool, clean up with a wet cloth.
